North Florida's health care employers have observed a shortage qualified workers with high turnover in key health support occupations. To address this issue, the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County (EDC), funded by Tallahassee Community College and Workforce Plus, contracted with MGT of America, Inc., to conduct a survey of health care employers in the area. The survey asked employers to inventory expected job openings over the next three years, assess current employee turnover, and identify specific skill shortages. The EDC used the survey results to develop a website portal and convey this information to train and employ qualified workers.

Tallahassee is a Great Place to Live and Work
Tallahassee is a city of rolling hills and canopy roads. It is home to Florida's capital, Florida State University and Florida A&M University, thus attracting educated professionals and cultural amenities not often found in a town of this size. Tallahassee citizens enjoy serene, temperate weather year-round and have award-winning recreation centers, parks and museums. From new downtown living to established midtown neighborhoods to fresh-air suburbs there's a place for everyone. The healthcare community in Tallahassee benefits from unusual geographic proximity within the major providers, including the two main hospitals, nationally recognized HMO, and various small to mid-sized specialty practices. Also within this 'medical corridor' exists a secure medical area network that connects the facilities with high bandwidth infrastructure for electronic file transfers over a compliant secure network. This and other related projects have positioned Tallahassee to be a leader in the development of electronic personal health records in the 21st century environment, and at the leading edge of a high quality healthcare delivery system.
